JOURNEY TO FROG ROCK

A fun, natural history paddling tour where you can imagine exploring the inaccessible coastline of the Catalina Island in a modern, easy to maneuver & stable sit-on-top kayak for two! Your instructor/guide will teach the basics of paddling and you’ll find how simple and fun kayaking on Catalina’s clear ocean waters can be. Once on the water, your guide will point out interesting and historical landmarks, birds & plants, discuss the island’s ancient to modern history, geology and ecology as you glide over near shore kelp forests above colorful fishes. There’s always something WILD to see… a harbor seal may peek at you from the offshore rocks or a bald eagle may snag a fish from the water nearby. At Frog Rock, you’ll land to stretch your legs, have a yummy snack and bottle of water, take a quick dip in the sea if you desire. Suitable for all ages, non-strenuous for beginners. Advanced gear available for experienced paddlers.

Duration: Two hour excursion. (Up to 35 min. paddling each way – at your pace)

Departures: Daily at 10 am, 1 pm, also 3 pm in summer.

Cost: $48 per person (min. 2). Children 11 and under $36. Children under 18 need parents’ signatures on waiver.

VILLA VOLUNTEER PACKAGE

If you would like to volunteer with the Catalina Island Conservancy then this package is for you! Participants will enjoy a beautiful morning drive through Middle Canyon to the James H. Ackerman Native Plant Nursery. While there you will perform a variety of horticultural tasks, while learning about Catalina's unique environment and the native plant species found here. Volunteer work is from 8am to noon then you will be driven to the Airport In The Sky where you will have lunch at the DC3 Restaurant. You have the option of returning to Avalon on the 1:30pm shuttle or you can hike the Airport Loop Trail and take the 3:30pm shuttle back to town.

WHALE WATCHING PACKAGE

In January, February and March the majestic Gray Whales migrate to Mexico and then back to Alaska. With all the whale watching boats crowding the whales on the mainland more and more whales are moving to the waters off the Catalina coastline. Here you have the opportunity to really enjoy these huge mammals in a natural setting in crystal clear waters. We will be offering two types of trips:

TWO HOUR WHALE WATCHING TRIP:
This trip will depart from Avalon and travels to the windward side of the Island where most of the whales are located. On days when they are on the leeward side we will stay on that side of the Island. Whale watching is the most fun when you are close to the water and can experience them up close and personal as you will be able to do on our rafts. Our Captains explain the habits and migration routes taken by these whales. He will also share his knowledge of the different species of dolphins that inhabit our local waters. You will need to dress warm as the air is nippy at that time of year even if the sun is out.
